Design-studio roots
Founded in Jakarta by Lans Brahmantyo in 1995, Afterhours began life as a boutique design practice that produced corporate profiles, annual reports, and commemorative coffee-table books for leading Indonesian and international clients.

Pivot to premium publishing
Inspired by art monographs and ambitious cultural editions, the studio re-branded as Afterhours Books and focused on collectible, visually driven titles celebrating Indonesian art, culture, nature, and wisdom.

International breakout & awards
2012 - Walter Spies Collectors Suite becomes the first Indonesian book to win the Premier Print Benny Award in the USA, proving the imprint's production quality on a world stage.
2016 - Afterhours is invited to speak at the Frankfurt Book Fair's Forum on Production in Publishing, signalling its arrival on the global rights circuit.
2019 - The house sweeps the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards with three culinary titles, cementing its reputation for diverse, content-rich illustrated books.

Operating from Jakarta with a small, highly specialised team, Afterhours continues to craft limited-edition art, photography, design, and heritage volumes while licensing foreign rights and building global collaborations.
